Although many think of spiciness in their foods when they hear the word "peppercorn," they are not actually related to any spice by the name. While they are commonly found in chili, a spice that has a pungent and hot taste, these berries are not related to any spice and are not pungent at all. Rather, there are two species of this fruit which are the G. cabrerana and G. haemorrhoidalis. These berries are black in color, and look like small grapes. They grow in tropical and subtropical climates.
